CSM's SCR Technology Reduces NOx Emissions in the "Region to Watch"

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is the smog control agency for one of the most environmentally conscious regions in the U.S. - Los Angeles and the surrounding counties in southern California. SCAQMD is well known for mandating rigorous compliance with the toughest air emission regulations in the U.S. Thus, the SCAQMD is considered the "region to watch" when considering the very best technologies for air emission and pollution control.

In early 2001, CSM Worldwide took on the challenge of reducing NOx emissions to less than 5 ppmv and restricting ammonia slip to less than 5 ppmv at a textile manufacturer located near Los Angeles, the heart of the SCAQMD. The CSM solution: implementing its REDOX(tm) SCR NOx abatement technology to clean the exhaust streams of four Sellers 395 hp industrial process boilers used at the baker's facility. In May 2001, stack testing conducted under SCAQMD scrutiny confirmed that NOx emissions had been reduced from a nominal 40 ppmv to less than 4 ppmv. In addition, ammonia emissions remained under 4 ppmv.

Needless to say, the customer was and remains very pleased with the results. By reducing NOx emissions, the customer has been able to take advantage of the SCAQMD's RECLAIM Program, which permits NOx emission credits to be bought and sold at the established market value. Reducing NOx emissions significantly rather than having to purchase NOx credits has saved the company several hundred thousand dollars each year. The cost of the SCR systems was recovered in less than one year.

For NOx abatement that satisfies the toughest regulations, REDOX(tm) SCR is clearly the "technology to watch."
